Alice Joan(Bassham) Covington, 86, went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday Morning, November 12, 2017. Alice was the daughter of the late, Arch and Prue (Davis) Bassham.

Alice was born in Tulsa Oklahoma on April 3, 1931. She was raised in Eagletown, Oklahoma and was a high school graduate of Eagletown High School. After graduation she moved to Dallas to start working and living her life. She soon met a wonderful man and the rest is history.

Alice absolutely loved and adored her family and kept them close in her thoughts, always. Alice had a lifelong friend , Laverne (Hoot) Bates, who she shared her actual soul, happiness, love and secrets with. During Alice's life, it was the ease she had with her choices, always right and kindness that enveloped each person she took on as a friend. It is not surprising her charms gained her wonderful friends and especially a second life best friend, Patti Owen, who kept her vivacious and youthful throughout her second half.

During Alice's life time of accomplishments, each time began with "Alice decided". Alice decided to learn piano from a friend, so she did and was good at it. Alice decided she wanted to become a beautician and then bought her own beauty shop, Capri Coiffures, gaining the nickname Capri, and retired there after over 20 years with the same loyal clientele coming weekly for good hair and good times. Lester and Alice decided to build a house together, nearly completely with their own hands at The Farm in Athens and they finished it. Alice was just a dynamo. She could sew clothes like a professional and preferred that old portable machine that clipped shut and waited in the corner until next time. Alice finished the daily newspaper crossword over morning coffee with  Lester while he reviewed the latest news and sales aloud. Alice really enjoyed a garden of any kind, flowers, tomato or pepper plants, whether participating or supervising the results. As for her cooking, it was always a desire of anyone offered a place at the table or a shared treat to take home.

Alice's best and unrelenting advice came from her grandfather and it rings through the decades as "council yourself', which was such a  smooth lesson to depend on yourself to do right. Her other advice was once you are ready to ask for advice, you already knew the answer. Wise Alice had that right . We are our own council and we always know what is the right thing to do.

Alice will be missed forever, and Alice will be with each of us every second of every thought of every day

Dear Alice leaves behind her husband, Lester Dean Covington, her daughters, Paula Davis and Martha Covington and husband Ramon Vargas Jr., and one grandson Randy Matz.

She will be watching over her sisters, Amy Drucilla Taylor and husband Dewayne, Janice Leonard and brother Jim Litchford and Cathy Bennett. Additionally, Alice has a wonderfully large family of nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, in-laws and friends who she saw as family.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, baby Mary Elizabeth Bassham, Floy Mae (Bassham) Green and Georgia Ed (Bassham) Powers,  brothers, John Bassham, Forney Fletcher Bassham, Col. Arch F. Bassham and Ralph Abbott Bassham, son in law Terry L. Davis, and other family including in-laws, nieces and nephews.
