Welcome to the memorial page for

Dr. GENE GUTHERY

June 5, 1945 ~ May 22, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Dr. Bobby Eugene Guthery was born to Marquis and Helen Guthery on June 5, 1945, in Poteau, Oklahoma. He was 71 years of age at the time he passed from this life on May 22, 2017, in Texarkana, Texas. He was reared in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the trombone in the high school band, singing in the school choir, and competing on the tennis team. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1963.

Gene was baptized in his teens. He was a member of the church of Christ and possessed a very in-depth knowledge of the Bible. He appreciated all forms of music and loved listening to his stereo system. He enjoyed Italian food and home cooking seasoned with “good grease.” His specialties were making popcorn and his mom’s cornbread. He was known for his fedora hats, suits, and fountain pens.

Gene attended Freed-Hardeman College and Oklahoma Christian College, and he was accepted into the medical school program at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1973. He specialized in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. His medical practice was located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. From there he was drawn to the field of research. God gave him the gift of an incredibly creative mind. Gene’s endeavors in science and medicine were profound, as well as advanced, and led to the development of seven patents.

He was recipient of the following:

John Philip Sousa Band Award at Broken Bow High School

Jayhawker, M.D. Award, recognizing leadership and teaching, from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Graduating Class of 1976
