James Edward Cockerham

April 14, 1932 ~ April 20, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Bro. James  Edward Cockerham, of Wright City, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord, on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Memorial Heights Nursing Center in Idabel, Oklahoma. James was born April 14, 1932 in Garden City, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Henry Cockerham and Virgie Ricketts Cockerham. James married the love of his life, Imogene Roberts, on September 3, 1952. He was a member of the River Bottom Baptist Church in Millerton, Oklahoma. James was a strong man of faith, a retired Baptist minister and loved sharing the word of God with everyone.  James enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was loved by all and his memory will forever have a place in the hearts of all who knew him.

 

James was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Henry and Virgie Cockerham; step father, Buddy Chapman; sister, Virshel Clark; brother, Thomas Cockerham; granddaughter, Lindsay Cockerham, grandson, Joe Wade Miller.

 

His memory will be forever cherished by his wife of 64 years, Imogene of the home; his children, Gene Cockerham and wife Patrice of Valliant, Barbara Miller and husband Ricky Bob of Valliant, Rhonda Hall and husband Carl of Idabel, Bruce Cockerham and wife Delaine of Valliant and Shaun Cockerham and wife Teresa of Lukfata; a special son, Robert McKelvey and wife Tonya of Detroit, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Eva Mae Clark, Helen Fay Wyatt and Lamoyne Melton; brothers, Roger, John and Bill Chapman; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

 

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wright City, Oklahoma with the Bro. Bob Thornbough and Bro. Aaron Strange officiating.

 

Interment will follow at the Valliant, Cemetery in Valliant, Oklahoma.
