Billy Dodson Obituary

Billy L Dodson born June 24, 1937 in Kansas City, Mo to Billy and Opal (Wilson) Dodson passed away from his earthly journey on Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home at the age of 82. Billy faithfully served his country in the United States Army as a mechanic, receiving an honorable discharge. 

He loved the Lord and served in various capacities, often being called a “missionary to missionaries”.  He did mission work in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Solomon Islands.  He produced a radio broadcast mission program to the continent of Africa for many years, often receiving letters from listeners proclaiming Jesus as their Savior.   Billy was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Idabel where he taught adult Sunday School and was the congregation’s song leader. 

Billy worked in the auto body repair business many years before completing the Oklahoma Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training Peace Officer Academy at the age of 62.  Billy served as a patrolman at the Broken Bow Police Department.  Billy served the citizens of McCurtain County as a Deputy Sheriff.  He was promoted to Captain during his tenure there.  Billy was well known throughout the entire county and well-liked by those that knew him. 

Billy leaves behind his wife of 42 years Nancy Dodson, and children Debbie Dodson OKC, OK., John Mark Dodson & wife Melonie of Tyler, TX., Reina Kratzberg of Centerville KS, Jay Morgan & wife Lori of Ft. Scott KS, Angela McCain of Redfield KS, and Ronda McCain of Broken Bow, OK. Grandchildren Tiffany Taylor, Christian Hays, Bradley Dodson, Kady Kratzberg, Keith Kratzberg, Jamie Morgan, Jerry Morgan, Jaxson Morgan, Max McCain, Nona Triplett, Peyton Triplett, Tim Robinson, and Johnny Boulton Jr. A sister Oleha (Dodson) Read of Prattville Mo. brother Bobby Dodson of Olathe, KS, along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.   Billy leaves behind a very large law enforcement family with whom he faithfully served.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Bow, OK.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Idabel, OK with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Broken Bow, OK.
