Charles Smith Obituary

Charles Frank “Madman” Smith, age 84, passed from this life on Friday, August 29, 2019 in Texarkana, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Eagletown, Oklahoma, the son of Carl and Evelyn Smith. He was a graduate of Eagletown High School. Charles married the love of his life Phyllis Kay Talley on August 12, 1957 in Henderson, Nevada. They were married for 50 years before her death in 2009. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. In his earlier years he enjoyed riding horses and hosted many Sunday goat ropings. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at deer camp with family and friends; he also enjoyed hearing a good dog race. Charles enjoyed going to Eagletown Senior Citizens, Friday night Music Hall, working on CB radios and talking with others over the airwaves. He was a member of the Eagletown School Board for many years and was a member of the Eagletown Methodist Church. Charles always enjoyed sitting at Lori’s store visiting with friends. Charles was a loving father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his spouse, Phyllis Smith; parents, Carl and Evelyn Smith; sisters, Catherine Franklin and Vada Lou Short; nephews, Ricky Short and Jeremy Short; niece-in-law, Catherine Short; brother-in-law, Cleo Sharrock.

Charles leaves to forever cherish his memory his children, Cheryl Burke and husband Cody, Lisa Sullivan and husband Franklin, Chris Wright and wife Kim all of Eagletown, Oklahoma; sister, Carleene Sharrock and Jerry of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kayla Martin and husband, John, Kolten Ortiz and wife, Shelby, Bert Ortiz and wife Tina all of Nashville, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Madi and Breanna Wright, Jacee and Kinley Martin, Brindley and Kora Bagley, Alberto, Adrian and Ayleen Pioquinto; and special caregivers, Adrianna McDaniel, Sandra Gist, Jennifer Wright and Misty Nixon.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Eagletown School Gym with Bro. Lewis Prewitt and Bro. Johnny Wright officiating.

Interment will follow at the Cerrogordo Cemetery.
