Evert Hershel Short

Evert Hershel Short, 92, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, passed on to his Heavenly home Monday morning, May 7, 2018. Evert was born on January 31, 1926 in Byars, Oklahoma, to the late David and Laura Short. Evert became a Christian at 24 and began a life of ministry until he died. He pastored Trinity Baptist in Idabel, Oklahoma, and Baptist churches at Rufe, Millerton, Golden, Soper, Battiest, Nida, and many more during his ministry. His favorite thing to do was to ask people if they knew Jesus. He loved his family and remembered all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s birthdays and ages. Evert’s testimony and witness impacted his family to the extent, he was able to lead nearly all of his siblings, nieces, and nephews to Christ. Evert always put God first, family second, and all others third.

            Evert was preceded in death by his parents; David and Laura Short, all of his siblings; Earl and Murl Short, DC Short, Dorothy Elkins, William (Willie) Short, and Ruby Boatman, and several nieces and nephews.

            Evert leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years and mother to his seven children; Janice Sue Short of the home, children; Kathryn Miller and husband, Duane of Millerton, Oklahoma, David Short and wife, Lisa of Krum, Texas, Bob Short and wife, Mareen of Flagstaff, Arizona, Steve Short and wife, Teresa of Holly Creek, Oklahoma, Doyle Short and wife, Merrilly of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Bruce Short of Idabel, Oklahoma, and Tammie Gentry and husband, Richard of Borger, Texas, 26 Grandchildren, 27 Greatgrandchildren, 22 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, a host of friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

            A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

            A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Idabel, Oklahoma with Bro. Odis Cayton officiating.

            Interment will follow at Holly Creek Cemetery in Holly Creek, Oklahoma.
