James Wesley Scarbrough

James W. Scarbrough, age 96, of Broken Bow, OK, went to be with our heavenly Father, the afternoon of July 10, 2017, at the Broken Bow Health and Rehab in Broken Bow.  James was born May 15, 1921 in Wright City, OK to James and Tiercy Scarbrough. James married Jewell Thurman on October 25, 1941 in Broken Bow. Together they spent the majority of their lives in McCurtain County. They were married 48 years and raised 4 wonderful children before the passing of his beloved wife. James was a skilled craftsman. He retired from 25 plus years with Weyerhaeuser. James's hobbies included, gardening, fishing and playing dominos. He was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Broken Bow. James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered by all as the kindest man they had ever met.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Scarbrough; one daughter, Mary Jean Thomas; his parents, James and Tiercy Scarbrough; one brother, William Scarbrough; one sister, Tiercy Bee Summers.

James's memory is left to be forever cherished by his daughter, Barbara Rice of Murphy, Texas; two sons and daughters in law, John Scarbrough and wife Nora of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Neil Scarbrough and wife Sharon of Hico, Texas;  one sister, Mary "Pete" Alice McCullough of Florida and a very special son in law and friend, Jerry Thomas of Broken Bow, special friend, Alene Allen of Broken Bow; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grand children, 11 great-great  grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with the Bro. Greg Curtis officiating.

It was James's wish that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Senior Citizens Nutrition Center in Broken Bow.
