James Underwood Obituary

James Keith Underwood, 64, of the Holly Creek Community passed from this life on October 2, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He entered this earth on June 30, 1955 in Dallas, TX to parents James and Mary Ann (Keith) Underwood.

Keith attended college in Abilene, TX on a full Rodeo scholarship. He started his Karate Training in 1970 under the instruction of Ron Moffit later opening the first Karate School in Grand Prairie, TX and ultimately in Broken Bow, OK. He also owned and operated Underwood School of Karate in Broken Bow, OK. He carried the title of Mr. Arkansas and Mr. Texas and came in ninth place in Mr. America in Body Building and obtained a fourth degree Black Belt. Keith’s instructors were Pat Burleson the first US National Karate Champion and Allen Stein the 1964 International Karate Champion. He loved fly fishing and spending time in Colorado, and he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Ann Underwood; one granddaughter, Julie Underwood; maternal grandparents, Edmon and Lura Keith, paternal grandparents, William and Susie Underwood.

Keith is survived by his wife, Renisa Underwood of the home; children, Jarrett Underwood and Tonya of Broken Bow, OK, Jamie Underwood and Mandy of Broken Bow, OK, Shantel Gilbert and Brandon of Eagletown, OK, Kody Ann Underwood of Broken Bow, OK, Will Underwood of Broken Bow, OK; Kaitlyn Underwood of Broken Bow, OK; one brother, Kent Underwood and Cindy of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Sarah Underwood, Joseph Underwood, Jillian Underwood, James Michael Underwood, Caydence Grice, Kinsley Caldwell, Kashlyn Gilbert and Lillian Kate Caldwell;  two nephews, Josh Underwood and Jake Underwood of Arlington, TX; numerous other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow, OK with Bro. Chad Austin officiating.
