John Huey Tyson of Idabel, Oklahoma, departed this life on January 15, 2017 at his home. He was born on May 1, 1951 in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Herman Tyson, Sr. and Martha (Gohegan) Tyson.

John was baptized at the age of 8 into our Lord Jesus Christ at the Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder, LA. John was an active member of the youth choir and worked diligently in the church throughout his youth.

Upon leaving high school and declining an opportunity to play college football; John began a lifelong career in the paper industry starting at the Boise Cascade Southern Division in DeRidder, LA.  Later John chose to leave DeRidder and take a position at the newly constructed Weyerhaeuser paper mill in Valliant, OK and relocated to Idabel, OK.  He met Evelyn Engler in 1978 and they would go on to spend the rest of their lives together.

John was a man with a wide variety of interests. He enjoyed music, reading, fishing, football, baseball, and traveling. He was an avid numismatist and stayed up to date with market and business trends. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and greatly enjoyed having lively conversation.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents, Herman and Martha Tyson; and granddaughter Sidney Silva.

John is survived by a brother Herman Tyson Jr. (Diane); a sister Velva Tyson; an aunt Lucy B. Coleman; a niece; and four nephews.  Evelyn's children whom he treated as his own: Debbie Woods (Kenneth); Jeff Engler; and Vickie Silva (Steve). Grandchildren: Lana Woods Hughes (Brad); Laci Woods Nix (Patrick); Sam Silva; Trent Pratt; Jared Engler; and Jacie Engler; Sister-in-law Virginia Harmon; Brother-in-law James Easley; cousins particularly dear to him, Marvin Simmons (Vessa); close friends, Craig Young (Diane); a host relatives and friends.

One of John's great joys were his great-grandchildren: Kendell, Konlee, and Evyn Hughes; and Drew and Noah Nix.

He has left us here, to go home—and will be greatly missed!
