Alan Dean McKinney, 58, of Broken Bow, loving known by all as “Dino”, passed from this life, July 19, 2020, in Denison, TX. Dean was born to John McKinney, Jr., and Julia Mae (Billy) McKinney, on September 3, 1961, in Idabel, OK.
He was a member of the Oklahoma Chahta Social Dancing team in the ‘70s, played on the Championship Stickball team in 1977, President of the American Indian Leaders Youth Council, and member of the Broken Bow Savage football team, from 1977-78. He also worked for the Choctaw Nation for 18 years.
Dean was a very active member of the Oka Achukma Presbyterian Church of Broken Bow. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed attending their games and supporting them; Papa was their #1 fan. He also loved to cook and make stickball sticks, family gathering will never be the same without his famous meatloaf, mac and cheese, and rolls. Dean was a huge OU Sooner, Pittsburg Steelers, and Broken Bow Savages football fan. He was an easy going, loving, passionate, and caring person that loved to make everyone laugh. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dean was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Gracie Billy; paternal grandparents, John and Mulsey McKinney; great granddaughter, Kynzlie Wells.
He is survived by his parents, John and Julia McKinney, of Broken Bow; daughters, Latrisha Butler and husband, Tonnie, Amber McKinney and husband, D.J., and Dena McKinney and husband, LaDarian Wooten, all of Broken Bow; brothers, Lyndon Karl McKinney and wife, Janis, of Watson, OK, Rev. Ronald McKinney and wife Danelle, of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Sandra Frazier and husband, Willard, Carla Sanders, and Marissa Baker and husband, Patrick, all of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Monica McKinney, Britton McKinney, T.J. Butler, C.J. Whitfield, Tamia Butler, Jakyran Whitfield, and A’mya Whitfield; great grandson, King Wells; best friend, Willis Wesley; special cousin, April Billy; as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A private service for family will be held at, 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2020, with Rev. Ronald McKinney officiating.
