Billy Ray Oehler, 82, was born in a home built by his father’s own hands in the Sweet Home Community, Broken Bow, OK on February 5, 1943. The son of Robert “Bob” and Ollie Mae Oehler. Billy was a simple down home, loyal country man, who wore only overalls, Wrangler jeans, and long-sleeved pearl snap button down shirts, regardless of the season. He was patient, hard-working, kind and typically enjoyed the simpler things of life.
His livelihood was living and farming the family acreage on Sweet Home, which he did for the entirety of his life with gratification and pride. A carpenter by trade, he worked for Baker Brothers Construction for numerous years. He and his father contributed to countless homes and community building sites throughout McCurtain County over the years.
Billy loved fishing, hunting, gardening and was always willing to help his fellow man. As a member of Lukfata Baptist Church he maintained a strong faith in the Lord, reading his Bible and the McCurtain Gazette daily. He was very patient and always willing to sit out on the porch swing, watch the weather and lend an ear to a friend.
He is preceded in death by parents, Robert and Ollie Oehler; siblings, Frank Oehler and Bobbie Shuffield, his only son, Jeffrey Oehler.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Cindy Oehler; daughters, Suzanne Rice and husband Jim, Courtney Bone and son-in-law, Christopher Rodriglz, his only granddaughter, Logan Jade Bone with whom he had an exceptionally strong bond, sisters-in- law, Lisa Engler, Jan Devore and husband Steve, one special brother-in-law, Darren Engler; nephews, Jesse Paul Morgan and Dawson Engler.
A Memorial is set for 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Church of Christ Building located at 509 N Costilow St. Broken Bow, OK.
