Burl "Jinkie" Chappell Obituary

Burl “Jinkie” Chappell, age 84, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 28, 2025. Born on June 22, 1940, to Richard and Nellie (Echols) Chappell. He married Joyce Colley on October 3, 1963. They shared 62 wonderful years together.  


He served with honor and distinction in the National Guard for six years. His time in the National Guard was a source of great pride for Burl, and the values he learned there remained with him throughout his life. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Broken Bow, OK.


Burl's love for the outdoors became a defining aspect of his character. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; these were not mere hobbies for Burl; they were a way of connecting with nature and the simplicity of life. However, it was the time spent with family and friends that he cherished most. Burl's laughter and stories will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.


Burl was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nellie Chappell, sister Margret Blankenship, and brother Sunny Chappell.


He is survived by his wife, Joyce Chappell of Broken Bow, OK; sisters, Myrl Lamb of Pensacola, FL; Minnie Floyd of Natchitoches, LA; Nelda Butzirus and husband Gordon of Broken Bow, OK;  brother, Ricky Chappell and Denise of Ringold, OK;  daughter, LaDonna and husband Joe Don of Broken Bow, OK; son, Chris Chappell of Broken Bow, OK; grandchildren, Josh Williams and wife Lindsey of Broken Bow, OK; Courtney Price and husband Paden of Battiest, OK; Courtney Richbourg of Broken Bow, OK; Chianne Chappell and Will Coleman of Broken Bow, OK; Montana Chappell and Lindy Price of Broken Bow, OK; great-grandchildren, Emma, Jace, Connor and Jaxon Williams, Tristan, Brayden, and Harper Price, Cashlyn Crudup, Kayzlie Barrick, Kastinn Cox, Kamden and Clayson Coleman, Jashlyn Richbourg, Bella Vinyard, Creek and Cash Chappell and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services are set for 11 A.M., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Parnell officiating. Burial will follow at Hochatown Cemetery Hochatown, OK.
