Helen Louise Laird Meadows was born on February 16, 1927, to Henry and Josepha Laird in Graham, Texas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 19, 2026, in Plano, Texas.

Helen grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School.  She attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in Spanish.

She met Tom Meadows in college. They married on January 9, 1949.  After graduation they lived in several different places, finally settling in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, in 1961. There they raised their four children, and Broken Bow remained her home until the time of her death. 

Helen taught at Broken Bow High School for 26 years. While teaching, she also earned her master’s degree in education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  She was recently inducted into the Broken Bow Teachers Hall of Fame.

After retiring, Helen enjoyed traveling. She visited Spain, Italy, Hawaii, Africa, enjoyed many cruises, and road trips with her sons. She also loved attending musicals and concerts with friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Meadows; her sons, Stephen Laird Meadows and Larry Alan Meadows; and her daughter, Leah Jo Whitlock.

She is survived by her son, Chris Meadows and wife, Toni; her grandchildren, Thomas Meadows, Kristy Minton (Bryan), Nicholas Whitlock (Summer), Eric Meadows Smoak (Shaina), Jennifer Whitlock, Chase Meadows, Allyson Meadows; nine great-grandchildren, other family, and friends. 

Helen was a longstanding member of Broken Bow Church of Christ.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Wednesday evening at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services are set for 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Broken Bow Church of Christ, Broken Bow, OK with Patrick Cannon officiating. Interment to follow at Broken Bow Cemetery, Broken Bow, OK.
