Homer Coleman Obituary

Homer L Coleman, 89, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at his home in Broken Bow. He was born Dec. 3, 1933, in the Pleasant Hill community, Okla., the son of John and Octavia Clutter Coleman. Homer married his wife, Doris on May 31, 1953, in the Harris community, Okla., and she preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2021.
Homer spent over 30 years at Eagletown Schools beginning as a teacher/elementary principal and later serving as Superintendent. During his tenure at Eagletown many improvements and renovations were made under his leadership. Homer was a dedicated educator and his students benefited from his guidance.
Homer loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved traveling and antique cars. Homer and Doris traveled to 49 states, Canada and Mexico.  He and Doris also traveled the entire Route 66. He was a member of the Kiamichi Street Rods and he and his vehicles were driven to car shows and all across the United States.

Homer was a member of the Broken Bow First Assembly of God Church.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, John T Coleman and Octavia Coleman Willis; and a son, Jimmy Coleman. 

Survivors include his children, Gwen Willingham and husband Bruce of Idabel, and Jerry Coleman and wife Rita of Broken Bow; siblings, Esta Callaham of Broken Bow, Lanell Absher Scirratt and Marty of McKinney, Texas, and Veleta Ehrlich and Don of Tulsa,  James Coleman and Wilburn and wife Geneva Coleman, all of Richland, Wash., Monroe Coleman and Jerrel Coleman, both of Broken Bow; grandchildren, Christopher Willingham and wife Angie of Idabel, Mark Willingham and wife Lauren Willingham of Edmond,  Marty Gill and wife Vanessa of Firestone, Colo., Adam Coleman and wife Crystal of Muskogee, and Jessica Coleman of Tulsa; great grandchildren,  Parker, Alex and Aubrey Willingham, Connor, Barrett and Noah Gill, and Jentzen and Maddison Coleman; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. 

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home, Broken Bow.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the First Assembly of God Church, Broken Bow, with Pastor Jimmy Jeter officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the McCurtain County ARK.
