Coach Minor was born on December 7, 1956 and grew up with a love for “The Broken Bow Savages”. He pursued this passion by following in his fathers’ footsteps and dedicated his life to inspiring young athletes to reach their full potential. Throughout his career, Coach Minor achieved many accolades, coaching over 50 all-state athletes, 26 regional championships and the state track and field championship. He was also named State Coach of the Year in 1997 and was inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame earlier this year. His dedication to coaching and love for his athletes was evident in every sport coached.
Coach Minor was known for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his ability to bring out the best in every athlete he coached. He was a true mentor and friend to his players, always willing to go above and beyond to help them succeed both on and off the field.
Coach Minor was preceded in death by his mother JoAnn Minor. He is survived by his father Howard Minor, brother Larry Minor and wife Kathy, sons Chad Minor and wife Monica, and Gary Minor and girlfriend Alex Dudley, grandchildren Beaux & Blair Minor, and niece Brandi Crocker and husband Travis and nephew Paden Minor. He is also survived by his significant other of 30 years, Judy Pike and her children, Jennifer and Josh Pike as well as his special family friends Duce and Angie Lee and their children Erica and Trey and their families, Carla Ellisor and a many other coaches and teachers. He leaves behind decades of former players and colleagues who will continue to carry on his legacy.
Outside of coaching, Coach Minor was a loving parent, grandparent, and friend. He loved spending his free time hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, as well as by the countless individuals whose lives he touched throughout his coaching career.
A celebration of Coach Minor’s life will be held on April 12th at the Bunch-Singleton Funeral home from 6-8pm.
