Hugh J Pratt, 80, of Broken Bow, passed from this Earth and gained his wings on January 24, 2025, at his home. Hugh J was born to Ray Western and Clara Ida (Gamble) Pratt on November 9, 1944, at their home in Broken Bow. Hugh J served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War for 6 years. Most will remember him for working in the log woods, but some will remember his carpentry skills and the houses he helped build in Broken Bow.
Hugh J was a hard worker in all that he did, whether it be in the log woods or building a house; when his wife said she wanted to have a beauty shop by the house, he built it and nearly 40 years later, the beauty shop still stands in its original form. Hugh J and Brenda spent 54 years together, until her passing in 2020. Many days were spent in the pasture sitting on the tailgate counting cows or working cows with his sons. When the children or grandchildren were younger, picnics were had near the creek under the big Oak tree. Hugh J was a big supporter of his boys and his granddaughter, whether it be taking the boys to ropings, or livestock shows, and later watching his granddaughter show livestock. He also loved to go fishing with his wife and daughter. Hugh J was an avid coon hunter, and he enjoyed taking his sons, along with their friends down to the pasture on a Friday night to see if they could kill anything. Hugh J always had a mule or a horse on hand, along with a good hunting dog. He had a love for animals, whether it be rabbits, pigs, dogs, cats, mules or horses. Later in life, Hugh J could be found in his chair watching sports or the rodeo channel or playing Spades on his computer.
Hugh J was united in Heaven with his beloved bride, Brenda; their son, Lyndell; his parents, Ray and Clara; and his sisters, Margie Dosser and Linda Bell Hood; along with some good buddies.
Hugh J leaves behind one son, Randell and Shay Pratt; his children, RaeAnn Pratt, Brian Bivins, Micah Pratt, Jaden Pratt, Jaden Bivins, and Andrew and Bri Pratt; and his grandson, Desmond; his daughter, Crystal and Scott Walls; their daughters, Allie, Maddy, and Sydnee Walls; and their grandson, Jack Jennings; his granddaughter, Taylor and Kyler Morgan; and their son, Nash; his cat, Callie; his brothers, Clarence and Kay Pratt; and their children; Lawrence (Lilly) Pratt; and his children; along with a host of other relatives, and many, many friends.
We all share so many good memories and traditions learned from Daddy and PaPa, we will continue to carry those on to our children and grandchildren. One being to always dance, as Momma and Daddy are laughing, jitterbugging and having a good time together again now.
Family night for Hugh J will be Wednesday 6-8pm at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home.
