James William Burton was born September 23, 1936 and departed his earthly home on June 1, 2022. Jim was a Christian. He was a lifetime rancher and full-time cowboy who loved to wrestle anyone and anything. Jim loved hunting and fishing and spent any free time wetting a line. He was the definition of a devoted husband, father, Papaw, and good neighbor. Family and friends were the most important thing to him, He would often say “you can measure a man’s wealth by the amount of friends he has.” He always had a nickname for everyone. Jim was employed by Weyerhaeuser Company for 44 years before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Virginia (Hardy) and Earl Burton; grandparents, Sam and Bertha Hardy; his brother, Bill Burton; brother-in-law, Les Thomas Kirk; niece, Tonya Taylor and nephew, Kendel Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie Burton of the home; son, Sam Burton and wife, Kelly; daughter, Jimmie Belk and special friend, Mark Delozier, daughter, Tina Horton and husband Blaine; sister, Virginia “Judy” Kirk; granddaughters, Nikki Fuller and Joe Smith, Shanna Belk, Kerrie Beene and husband Allen, Miranda Adams and husband Larry, Courtney Shupert and husband Tom, Page Belk; grandson, Scooter Provence and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Jaci Fuller, Jake Fuller, Raelyn Beene, Rayner Beene, DeLaney Willoughby, Aiden Willoughby, Kendell Belk, Layla Shupert, Wolfgang Shupert, Will Provence, Jett Provence, Cooper Adams and Journee Adams; brothers-in-law, James Taylor, Jessie Taylor and wife Vicki; nephews, Dion Taylor and wife Sherry and Keith Taylor, Kyler Taylor; niece, Kenzii Taylor. A host of family and friends.
