Janice Short Obituary

Janice Sue (Jones) Short of Broken Bow was born on February 7, 1937 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the third child of ten born to John Paul and Nettie Mae Jones. She departed this life for her heavenly home on May 2, 2021 in Broken Bow.

Sue, as she was known to most people, married the love of her life, Evert Short, on June 18, 1955. They had been married for almost 63 years prior to him preceding her to heaven. The majority of their married life was spent carrying out the Lord’s work across the southeastern part of Oklahoma, with Sue carrying out the role of pastor’s wife as Evert led the congregations. Music was an enjoyment to Sue from early in her life and she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Gift-giving was the expression of Sue’s love for her family. They often received gifts she had lovingly created herself, whether drawn, crocheted, or sewn. Sue’s joy at Christmastime was to provide tokens of love for everyone in her family, from the oldest child to the youngest great-grandchild. Springtime found Sue in her garden and flowerbeds, using her green thumb to provide fresh veggies to the family and lots of color to the neighborhood.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, husband Evert H Short, brothers David Jones and Dickey Jones, and sister Joann Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her 7 children and their spouses: Kathryn and Duane Miller of Millerton; David and Lisa Short of Krum, Texas; Bob and Maureen Short of Flagstaff, Arizona; Steven and Teresa Short of Holly Creek; Doyle and Merrily Short of Shawnee; Bruce Short and fiancée Renee Loman of Idabel; and Tammie and Richard Gentry of Fritch, Texas. She is also survived by her brothers Junior Jones, Paul Jones, Jerry Jones, and sisters Lillie Dunkin, Brenda Springer, and Debbie Green. Sue also leaves to cherish her memory 26 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with another on the way, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
