Jerry Moreland “Painter”

April 13th, 1936 – December 14th, 2022

 

 

Jerry Moreland, “Painter” as most will know him, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December14th, 2022 in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 86. Born in Longview, Texas as an only child to Lewis and Dazel Moreland, Jerry’s journey through life went through Grapevine, Texas, McAlister, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before eventually landing in McCurtain County where Broken Bow became his home.

Jerry and his bride of 54 years, Melva Dean Moreland, brought their three children from Oklahoma City to Smithville, OK and then on to Broken Bow due to a contract that Jerry had for painting homes for the Choctaw Nation. Almost all the Choctaw Nation homes in the county were initially painted by Jerry. Jerry then had a successful paint contracting business for many years thereafter.

His trade introduced him to many carpenters, builders, plumbers, masons, roofers, electricians and many more throughout his life. He enjoyed being with his family, fast cars and sharp trucks! He also moved at a pace that was just a little bit quicker than everyone else! He was not only just “Painter”, but he was also our dad, a husband, Papa Jerry and the best kind of friend. He will be dearly missed by many! Rest easy, “Painter”!

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Melva Dean Moreland and is survived by, and leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Scott Moreland, and his wife Nicola of Omaha, Nebraska. Two daughters, Pam Callaway and husband, Jimmy of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Polly Toten of Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

Four grandchildren, Bryce Dollar of Idabel, Oklahoma, Brad Allen Dollar and wife Dawn of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Alex Moreland and wife Ashley of Omaha, Nebraska and Katherine Elaine Lampe and husband Jan Ernst Lampe of Frankfurt, Germany.

Five great grandchildren, Landon Dollar, Avery Dollar, Bradley Dollar, Asia Dollar, and Myron Scott Moreland and one great-great grandchild, Roy Allen Dollar.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Bunch Singleton Funeral Home.

Funeral Service are set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Bunch Singleton Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment to follow at Hochatown Cemetery.
