John Elton Gibson, one of nine children of Bulah (Thompson) and Walter W. Gibson, was born in Glover, Oklahoma on November 20, 1933. He went to his heavenly home on December 30, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Elton grew up in Glover. He worked as a young man along side his dad and brother in the logging woods and later worked for Dierks Lumber Mill in Wright City. The Lord called him into the ministry where he pastored the Green’s Chapel Assembly of God Church for 15 years and later pastored Glover Assembly of God Church. Elton retired as a self-employed log truck owner/operator in 2004. Family was very important to him as was his love for horses. Elton was known to the truckers as “Horsetrader” and he lived up to his name. He enjoyed buying and trading horses. You could say he was a “truck-driving, horse-trading, preacher-man”. His favorite part of life was being “PawPaw” to his grands and great-grands. He will be greatly missed. He loved the Lord and is now at rest with our Father in Heaven.
Elton married Vallie Mae Wolfe on October 16, 1954 in Turkey, TX and they shared 66 years together, their marriage was blessed with two children, Melvin and Judy.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Chad Gibson; three brothers, Abb, Leeburn and William Gibson; four sisters, Marie McKeever, Rosa Harcrow, Mildred Westbrook and Vivian McKeever.
