Mr. Johnnie Levert (Sonny) Ezell passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK. Johnny was the 5th of 14 children born to Everette and Altis Ezell.
He graduated from Riverside High School in Harris, OK. He met and married the love of his life, Wanda and to this union 3 children were born.
Johnnie joined the US Army in 1968 and was discharged in 1970. He served in Vietnam and received his service medal, three bronze service stars, National Defense service medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, Air Medal, Purple Heart and Sharpshooter (Rifle).
Johnnie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and role model not only to his children but to his entire family and community. Johnnie’s hobbies included fishing with his wife and family, hunting, raising pigs and gardening for the community. He also enjoyed playing baseball and softball in his prime. Johnnie coached the Tom “Tough Old Men”softball team for five years, he was a hardcore Thunder and Dallas Cowboys fan and loved watching westerns and his game shows with his wife.
He is preceded in death by his father, Everette “Red” Ezell; two brothers, William Brooks and Everette J Ezell; three sisters, Everetha Walker, Shirley Bloodsoe and Deborah Hearn; one granddaughter, Miracle Ezell.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Wanda of the home; one son, Jimmy Ezell of Edmond, OK; two daughters, Altis Beatrice and Chad Rutherford, Tymekia Roberson all of Tom, OK; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Ezell of Dallas, TX and Elder James and (Annie) Ezell of Sherman, TX; six sisters, Dr. Vera (Herbert) Smith of Haworth, OK, Cynthia (Travis) Love of Clarksville, TX, Opal Burris, Robin(Phillip) Hall, Elaine (Melvin) Childs all of Edmond, OK and Helen Ezell of Tom, OK; sister-in-law, Amanda (Benny) Mack of Tom, OK; brother-in-law, Randy (Vicki) Osborne of Ashdown, AR and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday evening at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at New Dora Missionary Baptist Church, Tom, OK with Minister Jolene Rhone, Elder Danny Traylor and Bishop Chauncee Young officiating.
