Jonathan Jai La Shai Cubit Obituary

Jonathan Jai La Shai Cubit passed away on October 2, 2025, in Broken Bow, OK. He was born on October 8, 1974, in DeQueen, AR to Ralph L. Cubit and Brenda Burris’ Young.

He loved nothing more than to be amidst nature, fishing and hunting, especially deer and upland game birds. Yet, even more than his love for the great outdoors, Jonathan cherished the time spent with his family. He attended Langston University in Langston, OK, before furthering his studies at Pasadena Community College, Pasadena, CA;  and Northridge State University, Northridge, CA. Jonathan worked as a security guard for Choctaw Nation.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda (Burris’) Young, grandparents, Robert and Ada Bell, Earl and Jonnie Burris, and Uncle Earl Burris.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ralph L. and Jennifer Cubit of Buckeye, AZ; sisters, Rhonda Westbrook of Stone Mountain, GA; Tanya Duke of San Diego, CA: Ralph L. Cubit II of San Marcus, TX; Zachary Young and Samuel Young of Broken Bow, OK; uncle Rev. Charles and Aunt Claretha Cubit of Broken Bow, OK. He also leaves behind his very special aunt, Linda "lunch meat" Sandwich Smith of Broken Bow, OK, and his special cousin, Dadrian Cubit of Broken Bow, OK, who was more like a brother to him, his special cousin that was like a sister, Megan Smith. He will be deeply missed by a host of relatives and friends.

Services are set for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Cubit officiating.
