Leo Martin, 95, of Pickens, stepped into eternity, July 18, 2020, at his home.
Leo was born, April 22, 1925, to Ed Martin and Ora Myrtle (Axton) Martin. He married the love of his life, Hazel Whisenhunt, May 18, 1948, in DeQueen, AR, they have enjoyed these past 72 years together.
Leo served his country, in WWII, in the Philippines and Japan, receiving a Purple Heart. He enjoyed ranching on his “hill,” working in the Weyco Shop as a mechanic, and as a log cutter (known as, flatheads) for Dierks. He loved going to the Jot-um Down store to visit and tell stories with the guys. Leo also loved the family get-togethers. He was a member of the Silver Creek Church of Christ in Battiest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ora Martin; son, Jeromy Martin; brothers, Barney, James “Jim”, and John Martin; grandchildren, Shane Martin, Julene Martin, Levi Martin, Cody Hardaway, Alexandra Martin, Andrea and Angelea Martin.
Leo leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Hazel (Whisenhunt) Martin, of the home; sons, Gary Martin and wife, Karen, of Mt. Herman, Perry Martin and wife, Deana, of Elk City, OK, Terry Martin and wife, Sondra, of Bethel; daughters, Sharon Jean Martin, of Horatio, AR, Leslie Victoria Martin, of Stuart, OK, Shylia Tischer and husband, William, of Waldron, AR, and Shannon Hardaway and husband, Lloyd, of Horatio, AR; 17 grandchildren, Joe, Kristi, Shelby, George, John, Jere, Charity, Faith, Leslie, Casey, Heath, Natalie, Samantha, Rachel, Timothy, Matthew, and Todd; 30 great grandchildren, Cole, Brent, Kaiden, Kyler, Kaleb, Allison, Shilo, Dylan, Isabella, Ethan, Adrian, Aspen, Pacey, Ashlan, Emma, Kaylee, Reid, Kade, Sadie, Corbin, Mackenzie, Kierra, Levi, Asher, Judah, Rhoda, Heidi, Lance, Haden, and Erin. 3 great-great grandchildren, Lilly, Lacey, and Luke; as well as, many other family and friends.
Visitation will be, Tuesday, July 21, 2020, from 6:00 – 8:00PM, at the Silver Creek Church of Christ Church in Battiest.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on, Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 2:00PM, at the Battiest School Cafetorium with Bro. Rodney Watson officiating, burial will follow at the County Line Cemetery in Pickens.
