Linda Sue Battiest, age 78, proud member of the Choctaw Nation and first language speaker, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, in Idabel, OK surrounded by family. Born on January 27th, 1946, to Cyrus and Catherine Battiest at the family home in Wright City, OK, she grew up with a powerful sense of faith and community.
She attended Sequoyah Indian Boarding School and later made her home in Broken Bow, OK. Linda was known for her love of life and her many passions. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, solving puzzles, and cheering on OU Sooners softball and OKC Thunder basketball. Her enthusiasm for sports was even more contagious when watching her children and grandchildren participate in their many sports journeys.
In her younger years, she played softball with her sisters and traveled to singings with her siblings and parents, creating cherished memories along the way. As someone who loved helping others, she also dedicated many years of her life to working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) before retiring.
A devoted singer, churchgoer, and practicing piano player, she found joy in music and worship. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was cherished by her church communities at St. Matthew Presbyterian Indian Church and Pentecostal Church of God.
She was preceded in death by parents, Cyrus and Catherine, brothers, Presley, Charles, Cyrus Jr. and Luther, nephews, Delvis, Carl, and Presley Jr., sisters, Sally Battiest Crosby and Cindy Battiest Maytubbi.
She is survived by her siblings Loretha Gates of Wright City, OK and Doyce “Sonny” Battiest of San Antonia, TX, sons, Sherrill and Arita, Devon, grandchildren, Alexandria and Lucas Nappo, Jerome, Bryant and Lexy, April, Darren, Kolton, Mason, Addison and Gabriella Boaz, nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Her legacy lives on through her family, who will always remember her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared.
Linda Sue Battiest will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral Services are set for 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 27, 2024 at Chihowa I Chuka Assembly of God Church, Wright City, OK with Pastor Brenda Battise and Vince Maytubbi with interment to follow at Slater Memorial Cemetery, Wright City, OK.
