Mary Mize Obituary

Mary Ruth Balentine Mize, 93, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma was born September 29, 1930, at home in Roxton, Texas to Marvin Otis (Jack) Balentine and Bessie Ida Chancellor Balentine.  She entered the gates of heaven on Friday, December 1st, 2023, in Carrollton, Texas.

She graduated from Roxton High School in Roxton, Texas on May 27, 1948.

Mary Ruth married the love of her life, Tommy Mize at the First Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma on June 6th, 1951.  They made their home in Broken Bow and raised their five children there. She loved her family above all else.  Spending time with family was her passion.  She was a gentle mother and grandmother.  Mary Ruth has been described as the best cook, devoted to her family, tough, a fighter, someone who never complained and always wearing a smile, a hard worker to provide for her family, and a survivor. She will be remembered for her famous homemade chocolate pies, white sauce and eggs, chocolate fudge and being able to “make something out of nothing” in the kitchen.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, fishing, hunting, a good Coke, a good cold glass of sweet tea, playing bingo, and being outdoors.  She spent several years working at Otasco where her children remember all their birthday and Christmas presents coming from.

Mary Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Tommy Leon Mize; parents, Marvin and Bessie Balentine; children, Mary Lynette Fields, Bruce Dewayne Mize, and David Lee Mize; grandson, James Mathew Fields.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Davis and husband Carl of Coweta, Oklahoma; son, Tommy Dale Mize and wife Blanche of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ben Hogan, Sarah Allen, Wes Davis, Keith Mize, Kevin Mize, Kristopher Mize, Jessica Fields, Monica Stark, Eric Johnson, Dewayne Brewer, Denisa Barnes; twenty-nine great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Garrett.
