Maxine McGee Obituary

Maxine McGee, 87, of Broken Bow passed away on April 14, 2025, in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was born on July 29, 1937, in Mound Grove Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry and Ila Weaver.

Maxine's life was one of dedication and hard work from the age of twelve until she turned eighty. Alongside her beloved husband, Carl, she owned and operated Carl's Grocery, where they served their community with love and dedication. She also spent fifteen years as the office manager at Pine Telephone Co and twelve years as a receptionist at First Bank & Trust. Her work ethic was unparalleled, but it was her ability to balance her career with her family life that truly set her apart.

Maxine's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was devout member of Lukfata Baptist Church for fifty-seven years. Her marriage to Carl McGee on March 7, 1959, in Hugo, Oklahoma, was a testament to her belief in love, partnership, and mutual support.   Maxine often expressed her contentment with the life they built together, saying, "Carl was the best man and husband in the world. I could talk to him about everything. I would do nothing different; I'm perfectly content with my life."

Maxine's interests were a reflection of her love for the simple, beautiful things in life. She found joy in working in her yard and nurturing her beautiful flowers. Her family cabin was a place of solace and celebration, where many cherished memories were created. Maxine was also an exceptional cook, known especially for her Italian Creme Cake.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ila (Fennell) Weaver; her brothers, Curtis "Son" Weaver and Gene Weaver; and her sisters, Geraldine Cunningham and Bootsie Smith.

Maxine, affectionately known as Granny Mac, to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Carl McGee of the home; her children, Steve and Melissa McGee of Idabel, Karen and Danny Black of Idabel, and Don and Jeanine McGee of Poteau; grandchildren, Devin Black and Megan, Brooke McGee, Blake McGee and Michann, Channing Donaldson, Haley Harris and Jake, and Wyatt McGee; her great-grandchildren, Nolan McGee, Sophia and Briggs Harris, and Izzy Black; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a multitude of friends.
