Melvin Cupit Obituary

Melvin Bernie Cupit, 81, of Broken Bow passed from this life on November 8, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 3, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Bernie and Lillian Pearl Cupit.

Melvin and Jo Anna were married on January 29, 1970. They were married for 50 years. Melvin was of the Christian faith and it was a joyous day in heaven when he reunited with Jo, the love of his life. He cherished his family and loved sitting down to visit with them and his many friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

Melvin and Jo had a wonderful, full life together. They were avid bowlers and loved playing slots at the casino. They were members of a bowling league in DeQueen for many years and traveled with their friends to tournaments all over the country.  Melvin had many hobbies over the years including fixing up cars, woodturning, raising chickens and more. He always went all in on whatever hobby he had at the time.

Melvin was a mechanic and ran an auto-repair garage next to his home for over 50 years. He loved cars and loved helping people. If you have lived here long, chances are he has worked on your car and made a friend out of you while doing so. His work was always more about helping than it was about the money. He was the hardest worker you have ever met, working most of the days of his life. He was full of wit and charm.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Anna Cupit; parents Bernie & Lillian Pearl Cupit; and brother, Byron Cupit.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Shelly Cupit of Valliant, daughter and son-in-law, Shanna and Michael Taylor of Broken Bow; daughter and son-in-law, Melva and Clay Palmer of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren, Kaylie and Jose Perez of Carrollton, TX; Brendon and Amber Cupit of Fort Towson;  Morgan and Micah Johnston of Yukon; Carson Palmer and Sydni Hare of Wichita, KS;  Case Palmer of Lee’s Summit, MO; Keaton Taylor of Broken Bow, Tara Phillips of Valliant; siblings Jo Ann McIntyre, Vera Caraway, Linda Stuart, Don & Arlene Cupit, all of Broken Bow; Alice Moore of Okemah; and Billy Cupit of Tom; sister-in-law, Janie Skupien of Broken Bow; 10 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 5-7 PM, at Bunch- Singleton Funeral Home.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 10 AM, at Victory Life Church in Broken Bow with Brother Lynn Tomlinson officiating. Graveside service will immediately follow at Broken Bow Cemetery.
