Mike Hubbard Obituary

Charles Michael Hubbard passed away peacefully at his home in the Oak Grove community on Sunday, December, 1, 2024. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Danville, Virginia to parents John Edward Hubbard, Sr. and Minnie Louise (Payne) Hubbard.


Mike and Wendy (Blissard) were married on August 15, 1971 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and shared 53 wonderful years together. He served as a deacon, youth leader, adult bible teacher and music leader during his 50 years as a member of the church.


Mike graduated in 1967 from Pawnee Highschool and later moved to Shawnee where he met Wendy. He graduated in 1971 from Oklahoma Baptist University serving as a member of the Bison basketball team and graduating with a B.A. in Physical Education and Elementary Education. He later obtained a master’s degree in administration from UCO and an administrative certificate from OU. His 40 years of service in public education included serving as an elementary teacher in the Oklahoma City Schools and then going on to become the principal at Bennett Elementary in Broken Bow. Mike was an active Kiwanis Club Member and loved supporting youth in the schools, community and church. He was a Broken Bow Savage and Thunder basketball fan. Mike was a devout husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time telling stories with his children and grandchildren. He was well known for remembering former students’ names, making people laugh and for his warm and gentle spirit. He always lived by and often quoted his own father’s advice “to have friends, one must show himself friendly, Proverbs 18:24.”



He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise (Payne) Hubbard of Chatham, VA; brothers-in-law, Bob Cassity, Louis Wood, and Dennis Blissard; sister-in-law Sandra Wood.



Mike leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Wendy (Blissard) Hubbard of the home; children Mia and Cody Holcomb, of Ada, OK, Natalie and Israel Valentine of Jones, OK; Lacey and Johnny Gann of Piedmont, OK; siblings, John Jr. and Victoria Hubbard of Aubrey, TX, Kittie Cassity of Muskogee, OK, Stephen Hubbard of Chatham, VA, Philip and Cynthia Hubbard of Dry Fork, VA, Robert Hubbard of Plano, TX, Mary and Gary Tucker of Danville, VA, sister-and-brother-in-law Jennifer and Buddy Touchstone of Broken Bow, OK; grandchildren, Sam, Bella, Maverick, Finley, Brinley, Deacon, Jozie and Navy; a host of other relatives and a multitude of friends.


Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M., Friday December 6, 2024 at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel. 


Funeral Services are set for 2:00 P.M., Saturday at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Oak Grove Community, Broken Bow, OK with Bro. Greg Curtis officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
