Naomi Burke Obituary

Naomi Ruth (Snowden) Burke, age 94, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, a cherished mother, grandmother, and matriarch of her family, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on February 4, 2025, in Clarksville, Texas. Born on April 3, 1930, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Velma and Clifford A. Snowden, Naomi grew up in her beloved hometown, where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Don Burke, on March 11, 1947.

Naomi’s life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and servant of God. For over five decades, alongside her husband, Naomi served as a missionary to Native Americans on Indian Reservations across North America. While C. Don led crews in constructing churches, tabernacles, educational annexes, and parsonages, Naomi worked tirelessly alongside other women preparing huge meals—often serving 100 people or more at a time. She was a wonderful cook, and her warm hospitality and generous spirit made everyone feel like family.

In addition to her missionary work, Naomi worked in the Christian Education Department at the Pentecostal Church of God Headquarters for several years, all while raising her children. Her commitment to her faith was evident in everything she did. Naomi was a prayer warrior and loved to testify and bring souls to Jesus. She had many God given talents, such as creative writing, often writing poetry and sharing the many stories of their travels and spreading the Gospel along the Indian trails. A lover of music, Naomi would joyfully play any instrument—piano, organ, accordion, or tambourine—at any church where she and C. Don were called. Though the miles they traveled were long, Naomi was always right there beside him, offering her love, strength, and support.

Naomi’s legacy lives on through her three children: Donita Clay of Broken Bow, Nelda Burke of Joplin, MO, and Mike Burke of Broken Bow. She is also survived by six grandchildren: LaNell Scott of Joplin, MO, Mike Clay and wife Lori of Ada, OK, JoLynn Vance and husband Shawn of Joplin, MO, Kandy Pulliam and husband Jerrell of Idabel, OK, Neal Burke and wife Ashley of Issaquah, WA, and Melissa Wilson and husband Chuck of McAlester, OK, all of whom lovingly referred to her as “Real Granny.” Additionally, she is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, a niece, Vallree Snowden Womack of Broken Bow, and a host of extended family and friends.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Clifford A. Snowden; her husband of 70 years, Charles Don Burke; her brother, Clifford H. Snowden; and her son in law, Robert Dewayne Clay.

Naomi’s life was a beautiful testament to unwavering faith, selfless service, and boundless love. She leaves behind a profound legacy of compassion, joy, and steadfast devotion, one that will continue to inspire, uplift, and touch the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
