Neal William Spoon Obituary

Neal William Spoon, 91, passed away on December 29, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1933 in Inwood, CA to parents, Grover Franklin and Mary Stacy Joella (Yoakum) Spoon.

He married the love of his life, Lucille (Ware) Storey on December 17, 1960. They shared sixty-two years together, they lived in Cottonwood, CA their first years of marriage and a few years in Fair Oaks, CA and later retired to Broken Bow, OK where they lived out their lives.

Neal accepted the Lord as a youngster, under Reverand Johansen of Cottonwood First Baptist Church. He was baptized in Cottonwood Creek and was a member there for years. Later he sat under the preaching of Pastor Lyndell Kuns. When he moved to Fair Oaks, CA he transferred his membership to the Hazel Avenue Baptist, pastored by Ed Koons. There he was involved in the Bus ministry. He helped mechanic on them and drove a route on Sundays. He volunteered on many building repairs and grounds upkeep projects. After moving to Broken Bow he joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the teaching of Pastor Greg Curtis. He was an avid attendee of the Golden Oldies Domino Group. He enjoyed the competition, the fun fellowship and potlucks. Neal started working as a log truck driver. After a number of years, he switched to driving an 18-wheeler delivering groceries all over Northern CA and into Nevada.  He worked to be a good provider for his family. After graduating high school, Neal joined the Army and served in the Korean War. He was thankful to make it home alive and uninjured.

He had his pilot’s license and owned his own plane for a few years and enjoyed taking it up. He loved to ride his old Harley Davidson Motorcycle in his younger days and always talked fondly of the fun trips and escapades on them. He grew up on a ranch/farm and it was always in his blood. Until his later years, he always raised cattle and his own hay. He loved to just sit in the evenings and watch his cattle. He and Lucille planted a large garden every Spring and not only ate off it but canned and also shared with others.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Spoon; parents,  Frank and Stacy (Yoakum) Spoon; brothers, Grover (Wanda) Spoon, Duane (Shirley) Spoon, Howard (Ellen) Spoon,  Donald (Vivian) Spoon;  Glen (Erma) Spoon, Merrill (Ouida Jean) Spoon; sisters,  Marigold (Clay) Hendricks, Daisy Bell (Merle) Shoup, Gloria (Sam) Leedy,  Joy (Wally) Nichols,  Carol (Jim) Angal.
