Paul Leroy Camp Obituary

Paul Leroy Camp, 91, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on March 3, 2026, at 7:49 a.m. in Idabel.

Paul was born on August 8, 1934, in Weathers, Oklahoma, to William Cody Camp and Winnie Ortlieb Camp. A lifetime resident of the Broken Bow area, Paul was a hardworking and faithful man whose life reflected simplicity, strength, and steadfast devotion to both family and faith.

Throughout his life, Paul worked with his hands. He was employed for several years with the McCurtain County Maintenance Department and was widely known as a skilled fence builder and gardener. He worked on the construction of the Broken Bow Lake Dam and the Rereg Dam, contributing to projects that remain landmarks in the community. Over the years, he also worked in a sawmill, cut timber, farmed chickens, broke and rode horses, trapped, and carried on the family tradition of making sorghum molasses.

Paul had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and teaching his grandchildren the simple joys of life—like throwing rocks into creeks and rivers or casting a fishing line into quiet waters. He could make whistles from wood, deer from cornstalks, and was known to chew sweet gum sap. In his younger years, he liked playing baseball in the pasture with his wife and kids and lived a life marked by grit and creativity.

More than anything, Paul’s greatest passion was his faith in Jesus Christ. He faithfully attended  Charity Baptist Church and was never hesitant to ask anyone he met, “Is Jesus your Savior?” Whether in town, in the nursing home, or in the hospital, his first concern was for the souls of others. He loved Israel and desired to stand in support of God’s chosen people. His life was a testimony of bold, unwavering faith and a heart for the lost.

Paul was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Nora Potts Camp Austin and Florence Bean Camp; his brothers, Dub Camp and wife Mary, Sam Camp, Dick Camp, Floyd Camp and wife Jean, Carl Camp and wife Violet, Jerry Camp, and brother-in-law Ralph Fogg; and his sisters, Pearl Camp, Agnes Camp, Ruby Camp, Alice Camp, Gussie Camp, Joyce Beam, Viva Lee Camp Parkinson, and Martha Pratt and her husband Dale.

He is survived by his children: Danny Camp and wife Vickie of Gun Barrel, Texas; Twila Minter  and husband Tom of Somerset, Texas; Stepchildren J.E. Bean of Glover, Al Bean and wife Debbie of Bethel, Janice Brooks and husband Royce of Paris, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers James Camp and wife Linda of Smithville, his sister Barbara Fogg and sister-in-law Ruth Camp, both of Broken Bow; and brother-in-law J.E. Beam of Broken Bow. Grandchildren Jonathan Minter and wife Amy of Excelsior Springs, MO, Amber Minter of Somerset, TX, Aaron Camp and wife Amy of Troup, TX, Zachary Camp and wife Dessie of Tyler, TX, great grandchildren Gideon, Asher, David, Jett, Titus, Caleb, Nora June, Deacon, Sunny, and Ephraim, and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Paul Camp leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, love for family, and a bold witness for Christ. His hands built fences, gardens, and dams—but his life built something even greater: a testimony that will echo into eternity.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
