Phyllis Bray

Phyllis Carol Bray, age 76, of Pawnee, OK, departed this life, January 23, 2021, in Stillwater, OK.

She was born, August 31, 1944, to Claude Gilbert and Effie Westbrook, in Batesville, AR.

Phyllis loved to create beauty around her, whether it was decorating in her home or making hand-crafted items for others. She also had quite the green thumb and enjoyed surrounding herself with greenery and flowers, once tilling and seeding a giant flowerbed that was so beautiful the people in passing cars would slow down to admire it. Although Phyllis worked many jobs throughout her life, in later years, before retirement, she served as a home healthcare provider, the role that seemed to suit her best, at it gave her the opportunity to care for others. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in them the value of kinship, knowledge, community, and compassion for others.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Gilbert and Effie Jackson; daughter, Mildred Kay “Katie” Westbrook; brothers, Larry Jackson, Michael Jackson, and Danny Jackson; sister, Kathy Rowan.

Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Brandy Gofourth and husband, Todd; brothers, Bob Jackson, Steve Jackson, Claude Gilbert, Jr. Leon Jackson, Roy Jackson; sisters, Darlene Newsom, Vicky Sullivan, Brenda Chesnut, Linda Mounce, Wanda Dozier, Edna Edwards, Glenda Whitaker, and Nelda Watkins; grandchildren, Paige Gofourth, and Chance Gofourth; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

A graveside memorial service for Phyllis will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 7, 2021, at the Glover Cemetery.
