Ray Burris Obituary

Ray Allen Burris “Mountain Man” was born to Frank and Ethel Burris in Eagletown March 4, 1944. He departed this life September 23, 2023.

Ray attended and graduated from Dunbar High School. He attended college in Edmond, OK and later he was drafted into the Air Force, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. Thereafter Ray moved to Broken Bow and taught school at Riverside School in Harris, OK. He became a partner in the Furniture Business with Glen’s Furniture for many years. He was elected councilman for sixteen years in Broken Bow, and he was also a member of the Kiwanas Club and JC’s he worked for Broken Bow Cable Co. as well. Ray was a Deacon at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. He loved basketball, ranching, hunting, gardening and eating.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel Burris, six sisters, Ann Rogers, Jean Green, Dorothy Burris, Patricia Waddy, Earnestine Burris and Alberta Briley; three brothers, Franklin Burris, Charles Burris and Donald Burris.

Ray leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Arnetta Burris of thirty-nine years; four sons, Fred Burris (Teresa) of Choctaw, OK, Lynne Noble (Toni) of Lakewood, CA, Andrae Gulley (Janeé) of Junction City, KS and Kevin Gulley (NaTosha) of Bonaire, GA; three daughters, Desireé Hunter (Tony) of OKC, Merial Balogh (Adam) of Tulsa, OK and Dr. Michelle Watson (Dr. Anthony Watson Sr.) of Round Rock, TX: ten grandchildren, Ashley Harper (Chris) Kimberly Noble, Gerald Jones, Briana Watson-Showels (Cedric Showels, Jr.), Anthony Watson Jr.,  Brandon Balogh, Malea Noble, Michaela Watson, Desmond Noble and Draeson Gulley; four great-grandchildren, Rayne, DeAuntray, Auntravious and Levi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; one sister, Joyce Gorden; one brother, Bill Burris.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services are set for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Eagletown High School Gymnasium with Dr. A.L. Watson, Sr. officiating. Interment to follow at Eagletown Cemetery, Eagletown, OK.
