Roxie Turley Obituary

Roxie Louise (Smith) Turley

Oct 21, 1940 – Feb 21, 2021

Roxie Louise was born Oct 21, 1940 in Saratoga, AR.  The daughter of the late Willie Ed Smith and Helen (McJunkins) Smith.

She attended Saratoga Schools and graduated in 1958.  Roxie Louise and Wylie Turley were united in marriage on November 4th, 1961.  She continued her education attending Texarkana Community College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she received a Bachelor of Education degree, and later a Master’s degree in School Counseling.

Roxie Louise loved horses and shared countless memories of her younger days riding with cousins and friends.  She shared her passion of horseback riding with her daughters at an early age.  Horseback riding was a common theme of daily life - afternoon and weekend rides, trail rides and rodeos where she also participated in barrel racing events.

Roxie Louise and Wylie built their home and resided in the Broken Bow area for more than 45 years.   She loved her work as a High School Counselor in the Broken Bow School system.  She loved encouraging students to attain the education and skills they needed to be successful in life.  She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing, attending Bible Studies and participating in Church activities.  Through her work and Church membership she gained many lifelong friends.
