Samuel “Virdell” Engler departed the bonds of this earthly plane on April 26th, 2023. Virdell lived in the Golden Oklahoma community all of his 89 years, being born in the family log home in the Little River bottoms on September 29, 1933. Virdell was the seventh of ten children born to William Samuel and Pollie Ann (Standridge) Engler who moved to the Golden area before statehood.
Virdell was passionate about many things but none more than his family. His partner in business was his brother Lindon and his partner in marriage was Evelyn Easley Engler who bore his three beloved children.
Many would consider Virdell a sportsman but the hunting and fishing acumen he possessed went far beyond sport. Although he and his brothers and sisters all truly loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting were a matter of survival when they were young, and they were skilled at it! Virdell loved and trained champion Walker hunting dogs and was an excellent marksman. He had many intriguing stories of the hunt.
Virdell was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings:
Varennes, Lee, Virginia, Mondell, Lindon, Bill, Ellen, and Vince, and granddaughter, Sidney Silva.
He is survived by his children: Debbie and husband Kenneth Woods with whom he was blessed to reside since September 2009, Jeff Engler, Vickie and husband Steve Silva. Grandchildren: Lana and Brad Hughes, Laci and Patrick Nix, Sam and Becca Silva, Trent Pratt, Jared Engler and wife Bay, and Jacie Engler. Great-grandchildren Kendell, Konlee, and Evyn Hughes, Drew and Noah Nix, and Noah Silva. He is also survived by his dear youngest sister Darlene Gibson and a host of nephews and nieces.
Virdell was a hard working, kind, honest, loving, generous, and remarkably funny man. His nature was to make light of any difficult situation and he could always bring a smile to your face.
He was baptized into the body of Christ by a grandson July 2014.
We will honor and miss him for the remainder of our lives.
