With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Velma Fulsom Washington born November 12, 1962, to Sammy and Thelma Fulsom. She passed away on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the youngest of six siblings. Her life was marked by grace, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.
Velma received Christ as her Savior at a very young age, and her faith remained an important part of her life. She was a prayer warrior whose trust in God was evident in the way she lived, loved, and served others. Her spiritual strength was a source of inspiration to her family and all who knew her. She lived with a heart full of compassion and a spirit that reflected her devotion to the Lord. She attended Wright City High School and Edmond Memorial High School. Throughout her life, Velma remained grounded in the values she learned early on and carried those values into every season of her journey.
On September 17, 1983, Velma married Floyd Washington, and together they built a family rooted in love and commitment. To this union were born two children, Floyd Oliver Washington, Jr. and Ashley ShaShon Washington. Their marriage was blessed with many years together until the passing of Floyd on December 18, 2002. Velma later married Dr. David Monk, and this union lasted eight years. Through each chapter of her life, she remained steadfast, loving, and strong.
Velma found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved shopping and cherished time spent with her family and friends. Her warm personality and kind heart made her a blessing to those around her. She loved a good trip to the casino, but firmly believed any win big enough to require a 1099 was just too much for one day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Thelma Fulsom, and by her husband, Floyd Washington.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Dr. David Monk of Hugo, Oklahoma; son, Floyd Oliver Washington, Jr. of Wright City, Oklahoma; daughter, Ashley ShaShon Washington and her fiancé Don of Crossroads, Texas; two grandsons, Jaydon and Landon; one granddaughter, Mya; and a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts. Velma Fulsom Washington’s life was a testimony of faith, family, and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy will continue through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed by her presence.
All of us must quickly carry out the task assigned us by the One who sent Me, for there is little time left before night falls and all work comes to an end. St. John 9:4
